about

This song has many themes at once. basically, a father to adult child song. uses the metaphor of the pack animal the horse, or cheval in French, meant to be free, but always beautiful and dignified. i have always loved horses, but my only relationship with one was one i rode and looked after for two weeks in a riding camp in England when i was a teenager. Since then, i've always found the sight of horses thrilling beyond belief. i also have a vivid memory i have never forgotten of wild horses running along the beach in an area of France called La Camargue.

The image is of a painting by the American artist Charles Keeling Lassiter made in 1957. This part of the abstract painting is not necessarily of a rider on a horse, but it looks like that to puppeteer, who outlined that section to support his contention.

lyrics

cheval C)2021 by Puppeteer

Who wouldn't fear finding their own way
It couldn't be weirder minding your own day
Go forth, cheval, wild and free
We are pack animals will always be
Gallop loudly, perturb with noise
Canter proudly, they can't disturb your poise

Don't suffer much expectation
Find what fires your imagination
Live true, to your own design
It's you, yours, not mine
Love the rain, the trees, the sun, the snow
The wind rippling through your mane as you go

You will become everything
As you already are to me
Take courage in the knowledge that what you bring
Often takes a while to see
Life is always effortful
We work to keep our head above
The constant struggle for survival
It helps to have companions and love
Run, cheval, you will not be alone
You'll find others on your trace
Go, cheval, you are now fully grown
Destiny awaits you in its embrace
